The Chef’s Apron

Buy a nice apron and pin as many kitchen related utensils and things on it that you can. You can buy new kitchen items or use borrowed items, you will just want a nice selection of items like ladel, strainer, measuring spoons, dish towels, etc. When the bride arrives ask her to wear the apron and walk around the room for a couple of minutes, this is a nice time to have guests mingle and talk.

After a 10 minutes or so send the bride to another room to remove the apron (she can come back so as not to miss the fun!) and give your guests paper and pens. Ask the guests to write down as many things as they can remember seeing on the bride. The player who remembers the most number of things wins. You will be surprised how many people can’t remember what they saw on the apron even after talking to the bride for a while.

If you choose to buy a new apron and new utensils to pin on the apron, this makes a great bridal shower gift for for the bride, too.

Spice It Up

Get a cute spice rack full of many spices and then cover each of the containers with construction paper or something similar. You then write a different number(or letter) on each spice. Once the bridal shower guests arrive pass out paper and instruct them to smell and/or taste each spice and write down what they think it is. The person who gets the most right wins the spice rack, or it can be a gift for the bride!

You’ll be surprised how many spices people DO & DON’T know! Also, if you’re on a budget you can just place different spices on small plates and not buy a whole spice rack. Most people have enough spices in their cabinets to play this game well enough.

Family Recipes

Along with the invitations to the bridal shower, send in blank recipe cards as well. Ask each guest to write her favorite recipe and bring it to the shower. Collect the recipe cards from your guests as each guest arrives, tie them with a beautiful ribbon and put them in a keepsake box. When the gifts are being opened, present the bride with the box of recipes. She will be thrilled with your thoughtfulness and have a great selection of recipes to make for her new husband!

To make it a little competetive, after receiving the cards, have the bride read aloud the names of the recipes she received and have her pick her favorite just from the name. Have that person win a prize.

This does take a little planning, as you want to give your guests enough time to get their recipe and write it out, but the end result is worth the effort and the cost is minimal.
