Taboo & Tokens

Select a word that is considered “Taboo” for the duration of the bridal shower. “Bride”, “Marriage”, “Love” are all possible taboo words. As soon as a guest arrives at the bridal shower, tell her what the taboo word(s) are and give her a “token”. Safety pins, plastic bracelets, even a small ribbon, anything that can be passed around easily makes a perfect “token”.

If a guest hears another guest using the taboo word, she can take a token from her. The guest with the maximum number of tokens at the end of the bridal shower wins the game.

For a themed shower you can use a “token” that is related to it. So if you are having a Hawaiian bridal shower theme, get leis to use as tokens. For a garden theme bridal shower you can use flowers as tokens and so on.

This is a great ice breaker game as it gets guests who do not even know each other talking and trying to get token from people they have never met.

Bridal Shower Household Poem

The bride is seated in front of the party so everyone can see her. A good time for this is right before the presents are to be opened and everyone is seated around her. She is then told that they have a poem for her that will be read by the hostess. The poem is written with a nice selection of brand name household products in it and while the poem is read, the bride opens the “gifts” that corresponds to the poem, revealing the brand names that fill in the blanks.

Type up the poem, substituting a number for each product name. Wrap each household product “gift” individually and number them to correspond with the order they appear in the bridal shower household poem. Have the hostess read the poem and when she gets to a number have the bride open that numbered gift, filling in the blanks of the poem. You can also just have the household items unseen in a box to the side and while the hostess is reading the poem have her (or a helper) hand the bride the household products unwrapped, one by one, when she gets to it in the poem. Make sure the timing is right on this so that the household items aren’t brought out before it’s read.

We have two versions of the poem for you to use, but you can change it to add or take out any products or well wishes you want to make it more personal.

Bridal Shower Household Poem – Version 1

Dear (Bride's Name),
As you prepare for marriage, and are so filled with JOY, we wanted to let you in on a little SECRET. We know you think (Groom's Name) has a really CHARMIN personality, and in physique, might be BRAWNY, you may soon find out that he is no MR. CLEAN. There may be times when he makes you want to SHOUT, but don't send out the S.O.S. because he might VANISH. (Groom's name) will bring you CHEER and you will find him to be your white DOVE. He will always be there to SNUGGLE with, and be a best friend to fill your life with extra ZEST. When you are together you will find JOY, so remember your PLEDGE and give him your ALL. May your marriage be filled with a BOUNTY of love and stand HEAD & SHOULDERS above the rest.

Let ‘er Rip!

Take a roll of toilet paper and walk around the room offering it to each guest. Ask each guest to tear off as much paper as they normally use at one go. This will result in a riot of laughs as each guest is too shy to reveal such a personal thing and wonders what the others think about her. Be prepared for a rousing round of comments. Some guests may be offended by this, so if this seems a bit too personal for your group you can also just give each guest the same amount of sheets without asking this delicate question.

Once all the guests have their share of paper, ask them to create a “gift” for the bride using the toilet paper. You will be surprised what some women can come up with. The most creative gift, as chosen by the bride, gets a prize!

Name 4 Things…

Tell all your guests you have a quick game to play to get the party started. Give each guest a scrap of paper and a pen (or pencil) and ask each person to write down 4 things they think the bride should bring on her honeymoon. When everyone has written down 4 things time is up.

Finding the winners is simple… it’s anyone who wrote down the “Groom”!!

You can hand out small prizes to anyone who answered correctly by mentioning the groom as one of their 4 items, just make sure to have enough prizes for everyone. You might not even need any prizes, you will be surprised how many times this game gets played with everyone forgetting to mention the groom as a needed honeymoon item!

The Worst Chore?

This one can get really funny, but some maybe offended so be sure to consider if this is too risque for your guests. Give each guest a piece of paper and a pen. Ask them to write the one household chore they hate the most and list three reasons why they hate it so much. So if you hate doing the dishes, give three reasons why (such as: it makes me wet, my hands get too dry, it’s smelly).

Take back the papers and read aloud the reasons EXCEPT replace the hated household chore with the phrase – “I hate sex because…” Extremely hilarious. Your guests will be laughing, as well as blushing, and the joke for once will be on them NOT the bride!

Dress The “Bride”

You need at least 8-10 guests for this bridal shower game. The more the merrier. Divide the guests into teams of three or more and make as many teams as possible. Give each group 2 rolls of toilet paper. Instruct them to choose a “bride” from amongst their team and make her a bridal dress or wedding gown – using ONLY the toilet paper! Depending on the group you can make it a timed event (no more than 10 minutes), or just wait until each team is finished.

After the “brides” are dressed let them model their gowns to the Wedding March so that the real bride can choose a winner. You will be surprised how interactive even the shyest of guests will be when they are trying to help their team make a better “dress” to win.

Bridal Accessories

Take a roll of toilet paper and give a bit of it to all the guests. You can vary the amount of paper you give to each guest at random. Then ask the bride to stand on a low stool or small table and let each guest “make” an accessory for her – from the toilet paper!

Guests can make toilet paper earrings, bracelets and bangles, necklaces, a wedding veil, and perhaps even a wedding ring. Get the bride to model her bridal outfit and take lots of fun photographs!

“What Not To Wear!” Gift Pass

Play this game just like “musical chairs”, but with a funny twist, and instead of the guests moving, they are passing a gift box instead.

Before the party buy a pretty corsage and wrap it in a gift box. Tell your guests that whomever is left holding the box at the end of the game has to wear whatever in inside the box for the rest of the party. Naturally, everyone will assume it is something embarrassing and will do their best to pass the box quickly!

Have all your guests sit in a circle and hand the first person the “gift”. Start the music and have your guests it until the music stops. When it stops whomever is holding the gift is “out.” The last person holding the gift box is the “winner”.

Have the winner open the box, and then wait for the huge sigh of relief (and laughs from the other guests) when they realize it’s a lovely corsage!

Naughty Bridal Bingo Charades

Another variation of the classic charades game combined with the popular bridal bingo. Make bingo cards with risque words like “oral”, “tongue”, “blow” – depending on how far you want to take things. Write the words on slips of paper and put them in a bowl. Give each guest a bingo card then ask the bride to pick a slip of paper from the bowl and enact the words instead of calling them out. Have the guests try to guess the words, once the correct word is called out have the players cross the word off their bingo card.

The first person to get a bingo wins, but of course, nobody needs to complete her bingo card or win; the idea is to get the bride to go through the entire list of words. Just make sure the bride is open to this type of fun, as it can be very embarassing for some.

Quote the Bride

This game can get a little bit spicy so it might not work for every bridal shower. Simply have someone secretly write down the first thing the bride says as she opens up her shower gifts. After she is done, read back what she said, but in the context of things she’ll say to her new husband on their wedding night. You’ll be surprised how sassy some of the innocent comments will sound.
